FAQs

Frequently Asked Question

Are they waterproof?

Shade sails are not always waterproof. Waterproof material is available if you need the area to be water resistant. Remember that as an open area, rain is still able to get in from the sides depending on the angle the rain is coming in on. Traditional shade sails are made of a woven fabric which allows water to pass through. There are shade cloths available which have a tighter weave. These allow less water to pass through. Contact us for more information.

What colours is the fabric available in?

The fabric is available in a number of colours, from black through to charcoal, various shades of grey, sand colour, cream, white, shades of blue, red, yellow, purple, orange and green. There is a colour to suit every area and we can offer advice on what colours would go well in an area if you need help choosing. Contact us today for more information.

Do you offer warranty?

Yes, we offer a 10-15 year material warranty on our shade sails, depending on which brand is chosen. We also offer a 2 year Workmanship Warranty on our installations. Book your quote today.

Can you attach sails to our existing posts?

If your existing posts meet our Engineer’s guidelines then we can attach to them. Our sails are built to last, so the structure has to be sound to begin with, and posts with footings over 1 m deep are generally required for a safe structure. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your existing posts to make sure they are sufficient for the job. We are happy to help, so do get in touch.

What is the average price for a shade sail installation?

Shade sails are unique in that they offer a custom design, with each one tailored to suit the needs of the particular client and spaces used to fit them, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all or one-price-fits-all model. We aren’t in the business of selling cheap, off-the-shelf shade sails which may or may not work in your area and may or may not last the tests of time, but in quality crafted shade sails which will be both functional and attractive for years to come, installed by a licensed tradesperson and backed by insurance and a workmanship warranty. Contact us with as much information as possible about what you want and we will be able to provide you with a price estimate today.

Do you offer design for shade sails?

Yes, we offer a design service based on your needs, the conditions of the area you want to shade and times of day when shade is most important. In our initial consultation with you, we will ask lots of questions about where you want the shade to go, what you want to use it for and what the ground is like (eg dirt or concrete). You don’t need to have answers to all those questions, but the more detail you can give us upfront will result in us designing the best possible shade to meet your needs. Don’t hesitate to give us a call today to find out more.

Does my shade sail require maintenance/cleaning?

Like all outdoor items, shade sails can be subject to the elements. Regular cleaning and tightening of shade sails can help to preserve the sail and prolong it’s lifespan. Generally this can be done by you, and can be as simple as an annual rinse down of the sail, however we do offer a shade cleaning and tightening service if required. Ask us today for more information.

How long is the process?

Building a shade sail is a relatively short process. Residential sails can range anywhere from 3 – 6 weeks from start to finish, depending on current workload and the nature of the work required. Commercial sails can range from 4 – 8 weeks from start to finish, depending again on the nature of the work required. We stay in touch with you every step of the way to give you a clear indication of where we are in the process and what step comes next.

Generally speaking, once a design is settled on and an order placed, we need to come out two more times – the first visit is to install any metal work such as wall plates or posts. It is during this visit that we take the final measurements to ensure a snug fit for your sail. We then allow for concrete to set while our sailmakers get to work. The second visit is to install the sail itself.

If you have a shorter time frame in mind, do get in contact to see what is possible as we will work to accomodate your time line wherever possible.
